Non-Uniform Day Friday 9th March to Raise Funds For Sense

Ex-Pupil Cheryl Tregale is running for Sense in the next London Marathon

We are supporting Cheryl Tregale with her pledge to raise £1,500 for the charity Sense by passing on to her the funds we raise in our next non uniform day on 9 March.  This is what Cheryl has to say about her adventure:

“I am a former pupil of The Axe Valley Community College and have very fond memories of the school.  Long distance running was one of the few events that I ever did manage to enter on sports day, even if it was by default!!  I initially began running as a means to keep fit but the more I ran the more this evolved.  I decided that there should be some purpose for my training and started to enter races.  Although never top of the running field, the feeling having completed a race is a great sense of achievement and makes all those months of hard training worthwhile.

I decided to apply to run the London Marathon following reading an inspiring article on the fantastic work that Sense do with children, which made me want to do something to make a difference even if it only meant a small difference.

Sense are the largest organisation in theUKworking with deafblind people. They were founded in 1955 as ‘The Rubella Group’ and support both children and adults with a dual-sensory impairment.  Sense provide support for deafblind people as well as campaigning on their behalf.  Their vision for the future is a world in which deafblind children and adults can be full and active members of society.

They offer support for children and their families by providing them with a range of services such as; communication training, family centres, respite care and family days. They also offer training for teaching and caring professionals who work with deafblind people so they get the specialist help they need.

I have pledged to raise a £1,500 for this wonderful charity and am hoping that as many of you as possible can help me on my way to raising my target by getting involved and supporting this worthy cause.  The marathon is on 22 April and I look forward to coming into school to report back to you all what a great success the marathon was and how much money I raised for my charity.   Miss C Tregale”
