Met Office Presentation

Tom Lowe from Sixth Form and Sam Slade from year 11 accompanied Mrs Slade to the Met office on Thursday 10th December.  The ASPIRE team had been asked to present at the Met Office annual award ceremony.  Each year the year 7 ASPIRE students attend Science Camp where they sleep over at the Met Office in tents and spent Friday night and Saturday morning doing science workshops.  The Met Office Science Camp team had won the award this year and Tom, Sam and I gave a speech to over 400 Met Office staff and dignitaries thanking them for the opportunities they give to students to inspire STEM subjects.  One of the highlights of the event was meeting Sir Michael Fish as we waited in the VIP lounge ahead of the event.  The students both gave very professional performances during the ceremony and enjoyed talking to many of the Met Office staff after the event, all of which complemented them on their public speaking.

The next ASPIRE trip to the Met Office Science Camp is the 20th and 21st May 2016.  Invitation letters will be going out to Year 7 ASPIRE General students in early January.
