Ann Adams (Chair)
Ann has over 10 years of experience in regard to school and academy governance, and prior to those 20 years of experience in law, accountancy and insurance in both the private and public sector. Her varied background brings a wealth of skills and experience appropriate to the role. Ann has declared Business and Pecuniary Interests from her role as Service Manager for SSE – Governance Services providing advice and support on all aspects of governance to Academies, Multi-Academy Trusts and Maintained Schools in the South West.
Jane is the HR Director at Axminster Tools & Machinery, an HR professional with over 25 years’ experience. She has been involved in the education sector for more than 17 years, as a governor at her local primary school as well as a period of time at The Axminster Community Academy. Jane has always taken a special interest in secondary education through her work as an HR Director. Her experience includes the mentoring of students through different initiatives at secondary level education. Jane is an employee of Exeter and Heart of Devon Employment and Skills Board, an Enterprise Advisor and is involved in various HR forums.
Suzanne is the Executive Principal and CEO of The Redstart Learning Partnership based at The Redstart Primary School. She works with a number of schools in a Multi Academy Trust and sits on the Board of Directors.
Faith has worked as a teacher in secondary education for the last 36 years; the last thirteen as Head of The King’s School in Ottery St Mary, Devon. The King’s was graded outstanding by Ofsted at its last two inspections. Since September 2016 she has worked as an education consultant working with over twenty secondary schools primarily across Devon, Dorset and Somerset. She has been a governor in a PRU and in a special school.
Brenda has 27 years of governance experience. During this time she was manager of Governor Services in North Tyneside and then Senior Adviser/Manager of Governor Services in Somerset. She is now an independent governance consultant and works across the country. She now lives in Devon.

Heather has over thirty years of experience in the public and voluntary sectors. An early career in scientific research has provided her with the analytical skills to assess situations and develop strategies to achieve successful outcomes. More recently she has played an active role in school governance and is committed to ensuring that every student receives a high quality and inspirational education which will equip them with both the qualifications and the life skills needed to excel in the modern world.
Ewen is a Director of Dillington Estate, a multi-enterprise farming, property and renewables business based near Ilminster. With his experience in developing and overseeing the business at Dillington, and a background as a Management Consultant at a marketing and branding consultancy, Prophet, he brings a commercial perspective to his role as a Trustee. In his previous roles he has worked with many blue-chip Corporate clients to tackle a range of issues and has developed the skills to ask the right questions, and structure and solve a variety of complex commercial challenges.
Margaret has over twenty years’ experience, as an accountant, working internationally for a multinational oil and gas company. Additionally, she worked as a self-employed accountant for over fifteen years so has a wealth of experience at both international and small business levels. Margaret has ten years’ experience of school governance at both primary and secondary schools.
David has undertaken governance duties in both the primary and secondary sectors. His main areas of experience have included finance, budgeting, facilities and campus development.
Stephen has worked in the field of education for over thirty years. He began his career as a History teacher and has held the posts of Vice Principal in an 11 to 18 school and was Headteacher of a 9 to 13 middle school. He later held the post of Assistant Director of School Improvement Westminster City Council. He lives in Axminster and currently works for Somerset County Council as a School Education Partner and Adviser.
Paul is a qualified Design Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the field of air movement. He works for Air Control Industries Ltd who are based in Axminster and has been managing the business since 2001. His role incorporates the managing of a wide range of projects and personnel management with 47 employees in Axminster and 5 in the USA. Paul has experience of global sales of bespoke engineered products.
Paul also has more than 14 years’ experience of school governance at both primary and secondary level.
Michael is a qualified teacher and has a Masters degree in Modern Foreign Languages. He worked in the teaching profession for over 30 years in the maintained and independent sectors. His experience covers both academic and pastoral aspects of secondary school life in the UK and overseas, and also includes Ofsted (and other agencies) inspection and accreditation work. He retired from his last post, the headship of a British international school in the Middle East, in July 2016.
