Austria Ski Trip
The Axe Valley Community College’s annual ski trip to Austria proved to be another fantastic event with thirty five students pitting their abilities against the Alps.
The tour party set off from balmy Axminster on 27th December hoping for more wintery weather at their destination, but instead were greeted with blue skies and very unlike ski conditions. Fortunately, there was enough man made snow at Zell and plenty of natural snow at Kaprun (glacier) to keep the groups thirst for skiing under control. In the challenging early conditions of slush and ice all skiers applied themselves fantastically and were able to make progress.
The beginners groups were particularly impressive as the environment was certainly not easy to learn the art of skiing. As the conditions improved as the week went on, so did the quality of skiing from all parties and there were many impressive displays from a variety of students.
Further entertainment came in the evenings with the group being treated to a Zell ‘Ice Bears’ Ice hockey game; swimming, where most of the students enjoyed doing acrobats off of the high board; Austrian bowling; New Years eve fancy dress and games culminating in seeing in the New Year with an impressive fireworks display.
A memorable trip was had by all and as always it was an absolute pleasure to spend a week skiing with the fantastic students of Axe Valley. Hopefully next year’s trip will be just as enjoyable, and I’m sure there will be plenty of returning students who want to develop their skiing skills further.
Thanks must also go to Mr and Mrs Hunt for supporting the trip and students, also to Mrs Scott who agreed to sacrifice her honeymoon to spend it with the students of Axe Valley.
